Spiderman 4 Crushed

This is an abomination! The Spiderman series was a great contributor to the box office. Spiderman 1 earned $39,406,872 on its opening day and went on to earn $821,708,551 worldwide. Then there was Spiderman 2 with Dr. Octopus, one of the few times a sequel lived up to the success and equivalent quality of its predecessor. Spiderman 2 generated $40.4 million on its first day and went on to earn $783.7 million worldwide. Furthermore, Spiderman 3 became Marvel's most successful film and Sony Pictures Entertainment's highest grossing film to date: $59,841,919 on its opening day and $890,871,626 worldwide. So with millions of comic book fans and movie-goers drooling over the film series, with so many people anticipating a 4th Spiderman, why would the potential block buster be cancelled?! The script and stubborn personalities is the answer. It is rumored (and this is likely fact) that the script was so bad it went thru a number of rewrites and revisions, ultimately postponing the release of the movie. Faced with an unworthy Spiderman 4 script and a haunting deadline, director Sam Raimi decided to leave this catastrophe since he knew it was highly unlikely that the movie would make the deadline and be a smashing hit like the previous Spiderman films.

What is another alternative to generating revenue off of Spiderman after Spiderman 4 has officially been canceled? Reboot. The brilliant minds at Sony have decided to “reboot” the Spiderman franchise, meaning they are starting over with Peter Parker back in high school, getting bit by a spider, the story we all know and have already witnessed in Spiderman 1. Yes, people I was being sarcastic when I said “brilliant.” How many people will go to see basically a remake of Spiderman 1 that is missing Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst? With a brand new cast and director, how good will this Spiderman Reboot be? I’ll tell you what they should have done. They should have perfected the Spiderman 4 script and brought back Maguire and Dunst even if the release date would’ve been extended.

Spiderman had a good run, but now it has come to its end.

Message of the Day (1-15-10)

People please get your pants off the ground (Inspired by General Larry Platt, American Idol Auditioner). I agree with Larry 100%. Why do so many young men think it’s attractive to display their boxers and/or briefs in public? Invest in a BELT! Please and thank you. This action will take you a long way; I’m sure you will be able to walk a lot faster without stepping on the back of your pants every time you take a step. And as for the 62 yr. old civil rights activist, Larry, you are a big heart in a thunderstorm of bows and arrows; continue to bend them with your strength and love.
